Sunday, January 18 - Golden, Colorado

We spent today in Golden Colorado - hiking on the Apex Trail up to the Lookout. It was actually quite warm in the sun and the hills are mostly bare of snow. However, a lot of the trail, which went up a steep valley, was packed snow and there were a lot of icey sections (very slippery) and some muddy sections (also very slippery).  We wished we'd taken our yaktraks. Altogether we climbed about 2000 ft - but don't forget - we were starting at the 5000 ft. level.  There were quite a few other hikers and cyclists. Everyone seemed very fit and very friendly.

Here is Mike checking the trail map on the way up.

Here is Penny at the Interpretation Center at the lookout.

Here is a view of downtown Denver from the lookout.
